Hi, Nahuatl, and welcome to Meltdown Monday! Tell us a little about yourself so we can know the person behind the work.
Nahuatl- Julie, thank you very much for let me be part of your beautiful place. My name is Nahuatl, which is an Aztec name, which I love. I was born in Mexico and I had live there until last year, I miss it a lot. Now I live in Costa Rica with my little 5 year old boy, who is a violinist I'm very proud of. I'm a single mother (not exactly by choice) and I found myself in mothering, I knew since very young, that I wanted to be a mom, but when I was finally with a sweet baby in my arms, I discover what kind of mother I wanted to be, and I didn't wanted to miss a bit, I want to be with him all the way, which means I had to work at home.
At the beginning I worked in a computer data company, but soon I realize that I was not enjoying it at that I had to pursue a way where my creativity could be involve, and in those days I discover Etsy.

After that I became a Doula, and try to work on that, and that took me to eco-baby products and so I started my little own company, Centro la Milpa, but still I was needing a place where I could offer more one of a kind items, and so Simple Loving Family was finally born, and there I try to offer all kind of things that would make family life simple and eco-friendly.

What inspires your creations?

Nahuatl- Mostly Nature and fun, but also I want to help to reduce our footprint.

How do you balance 'making' with mothering?

Nahuatl- Well, it may sound strange, but I have found that my creativity cycle it's completely relate to my woman's cycle. So there is times of the month to rest, or to do a lot of computer work, to be playing a lot with my boy, or to just be sewing, respecting these moods it the first thing to keep my sanity, there's nothing worse than try to force myself to work when my body is asking for naps, and it will end up with an angry mom. And I work when I can, sometimes at night, and sometimes with my kid around, and he gets involve a lot, because he's always with me, so it helps to make him part of my process, in some way. But the really best thing I have done is to create spaces in the house for him to be self-sufficient, a reading mat next to all the kids books, a little table with all art supplies on pockets in the wall, toys in the room all in classified transparent draws. So he can use everything and take it back easily.

Thank you so much for for joining us for Meltdown Monday!

Nahuatl-I'm offering one of these newborn hats in flannel, they are reversible too. I created this pattern when I used to give sewing classes and we wanted to make some baby gifts. They are made with love in a pet and smoke free environment.
Thank you all and good luck!
