Many Hands Make St. Lucia Bread

Our Saint Lucia day was made possible by many little hands, eager to help. In lieu of the traditional saffron buns we made a beautiful braided bread. I found the recipe here.

It was so yummy! Just sweet enough with a hint of orange. My little helpers zested oranges and cracked eggs...

And then we all rolled the candles to adorn our bread.

Perfect! We do nothing too much for this particular day. We make our light and celebrate with an ease. There's no need to overdo.

Hope your light is shining brightly through these darkened days!

Love your photos and the feeling of your day, I'm kind of overwhelming, and trying to keep peace in my days at the same time, if that makes any sense.
<3 LOVE <3 Those look so yummy. What a perfect day. Thank you, too, for your encouraging words lately. I have really needed them!!__XOXO
Beautiful! Your photos inspire me to make Saint Lucia bread with my kiddos. Next week is our baking week, maybe I'll give it a try :)
Oh my that bread looks awesome! What a fantastic idea.
i love this idea, and i love the simple little candles that the girls made for the wreath.
absolutely beautiful, Julie!!!
What a wonderful time baking together. So sweet. I love the photo where your daughter is laying her head on the table! :) Thanks for the recipe - the bread looks delicious. Where do you get your beeswax sheets? I've used to have a whole bunch and used them up (years ago - can't remember where) and the only ones I can find online are colored sheets. I'd really prefer the natural ones.

I got those from AC Moore. They have colors and 'white', which is what we used for these and I also bought 'yellow', which really just looks like the natural beeswax color. I found this source, http://www.generalwax.com/p___P0001.html which I think is cheaper (need to check the size) that I think I will order some in a larger quantity from. We've been going through a lot of beeswax!
