My Friend , My Confidante

I tried to quit it. January resolutions left me sipping hot teas and day dreaming of my bitter, caffeinated friend. I will be honest... I didn't last too long and now I'm back on the hard stuff. I even traded in my old coffee maker for an espresso machine and now lattes are my twice daily indulgence (and the one extra I had at dinner this evening with my mom).

I did switch to half-caff, though. That's something, right?

The same here, I'm back on it. Love your cup.
Oh Julie I too have tried. I love tea very much, but it is no substitute for coffee!! I have decided to enjoy two cups of good strong coffee each day, and no more. Half caf is definitely something, good going!
How interesting! Me too, after the holidays and part of the new year resolutions, I determined to clean up my diet.I was off coffee for , uh, about 6 weeks. I drank a lot of teas, and juice in the morning....but ugh, nothing was quite the same. It's true, the coffee feels like a dear friend ! I limit it to one large cup. One thing I learned from Ayurveda is to put a dash of nutmeg and or cardamom in the coffee and by their practices , this counters the negative effects of coffee on the system. It has become a pleasant habit to add these spices to the coffee and it helps me think it is "now okay" ! And , well , in the end, there could be a lot worse things to "indulge" in !!!

Oh, Lucinda, you've just added fuel to the fire! My afternoon cup is definitely going to get a little spicy now. :)

Why do I never think about the spices? I love it so much and if it helps to neutralize the negativ effects of coffee, even better!
oh coffee, how i love you too ;-)
I used to drink at least a pot of coffee a day. I'm down to a cup or two of french press a day (with the random treat of a soy mocha from EarthFare once in a while). I will never give up my coffee. Never ever. Come on, I even have a tattoo of a coffee cup for pete's sake! (:

Ah, my poison is tea. Regular Ceylon tea. I tried green tea, peach tea, peppermint tea, chamomile tea, decaf, low caf...it didn't take. I'd be lost without my tea.... ;)

I am envious of your espresso machine and your mug.
Your mug rocks! I have a new favorite too, one that says "Forth, and fear no darkness!" in Elvish around the rim :-) For those days when a little coffee isn't enough, and I need encouraging words too, lol. Most days I just drink one 6oz cup with breakfast, but some days I have a little something in the afternoon too. Particularly when we have to go out to run a bunch of errands and my path crosses a Starbucks... their lite mocha Frappucino is my current downfall... but it's got way less fat/calories than a regular, and I like it better too cuz it's not so sweet, so that helps, right? Still full of caffeine though. Sigh.

My espresso machine is still packed in a box. I'm almost afraid to unpack it, lol. One of these days.
I'm with you sister re: the coffee thing... a cup in the morning, another in late morning and usually a little pick-me-up in the afternoon. Quantity-wise, it's not much (esp. since we drink half-caf around here) but it's an addiction... a serious addiction. There's no giving it up for me, though sometimes I'll substitute in a cup of Pero on days I'm trying to be virtuous.

mmmm... coffee. If it weren't midnight, I'd have a cup right now!

Haha! No kidding! I had to fight the urge to have one before bed last night.
