Summer Ending

Good morning and happy Monday! Perhaps it's not morning where you are. But here, it's such a cool morning. Makes me feel Autumn is so very close.

Our days have been very full but, truthfully, I'm eager to see the wide expanse of summer come to a close. Do you ever feel there's only so much of that wide openness and high energy you can take?
Kaiya has been spending much of her time hand stitching. Her grandma has been showing her how to make tiny doll quilts. It's all she wants to do and I've been having to actually make them go outside. Zoe isn't into it but she won't go without her. Otherwise, they don't sleep well and they're at each others throats. Not making for a happy home.

We've gotten out of the habit of all going out together and that really needs to end. We all need our daily doses of fresh air and exercise. I've been a little consumed with my work recently and am struggling to strike a balance. I'll have to get it together this week, though, as next Monday will be our first day of school. Zoe going into Kindergarten and Kaiya moving up to first grade. They're excited, I'm feeling unprepared. We'll get there, though.

Which brings me to a question for all of you, dear readers. Please tell what your cleaning routine is like. As it is, I clean on Mondays. That's the day to scrub everything and bring the entire house into order all at once. I do it on Mondays because I like to start the week out clean and fresh. But with school stating up I really don't think it would be prudent to begin our week with the whole first day spent doing that instead of school work. So how do you do it? Do you have a day when you do everything, or do you do certain tasks on certain days? Of course, I keep the house tidy and the floors swept and the counters wiped clean and beds made every day, but I'm talking about scrubbing the kitchen thoroughly and the bathroom and dusty and moping.... Please share with me!
Now I've still got material reading to cram and a first week to plan. I hope to be back very soon. I don't like staying from here so long. You know, once a day or two rolls by it's easy to let another a week and month or more go by without blogging. But I enjoy it and love to hear from all of you, so I'm not going to let that happen.

Hope you have a wonderful start to your week, friends!

Oh cleaning! hmm well I too really struggle with keeping up with it now with another little one....never seems time to be on ones hands and knees scrubbing the shower etc! I'm lucky to get a shower. I try to do a bit each day......and I know when my Milly is a little bigger it will be easier. When I only had Abbie, I would spend say an hour each weekend top and tailing one room - moving furniture, cleaning windows etc - I found that work well.

Hope you have great first week of school.

Oh this one is a struggle for me as well...and the summer has left our rhythm somewhat tousled. I try to do as you do w/ the daily tidying, and then have a certain day that I do each room in more depth. Monday is linens, Tuesday is bathroom etc. There is a website flylady.net, she has a whole weekly routine that I found helpful, some of what she does isn't for me (getting dressed in the am all the way to shoes...I'm a pjs kind of mama). Good luck to you my friend, my aunt always tells me that "a clean house is no place to raise children".
Hi Julie!
There's an article I read quite a while ago, which helped me a lot: realsimple.com a checklist for cleaning your house in 10 minutes a day.
I also read somewhere (I think it might have been on the same site) that small things make a difference, and getting your family in the same habits. Like for example, if you're in the lounge and going to the kitchen, take a quick look round if there's something you can carry with you: your empty tea cup that you forgot when you rushed to stop the kids from killing each other, or the dishcloth the little one brought to the lounge for no apparent reason - like that. Every small thing ends up making a BIG difference. Also I'm big on things like meal planning and grocery lists. (In general I'm not a listy-type person) I found these two things not only save me time, but money as well. Buy ONLY what's on the list, even if you're sure you forgot to put a certain item on the list.
Good luck with the new school term - I still think it's amazing that you home-school!!

Lots of love xoxo
Cleaning? What's that? Sigh. I try to sweep one floor in the house per day, and keep the kitchen counters clean every day, and clean the main bathroom once a week and the others whenever I can. Dusting doesn't happen unless I have company coming (good thing J&E live near here now, as having them over makes me clean more!). And I'm not even really home-schooling yet! Sigh. I'm a terrible housekeeper, but my kids don't care and neither does my hubby, as long as things are not truly dirty & nasty, which I try hard not to let them get.

And my thoughts turned toward fall this weekend too! I'm so much more productive during spring and fall than summer and winter.
I left a comment on your face book..I just came by to say..You have some beautiful girls Julie...so beautiful!!!!!!

Also I found this... It helped me a lot a few weeks ago as I read it.. maybe you to...xoxo http://thewaldorfconnection.com/waldorf-homeschoo...
